Approval Granted, Countdown Commencing

August 18, 2008 · Filed Under News, The Books · Comments

I received the second proof copy of Volume One: Subject Lines this morning, and it’s perfect! I’ve approved the book in the BookSurge system, and I’m told that the book will now propagate to the BookSurge bookstore, Amazon.com, AbeBooks.com and Alibris.com within 1-2 weeks and BooksinPrint.com and GlobalBooksinPrint.com within 2-3 weeks. Naturally, I’ll be keeping an eye on these sources daily so I can announce when it’s available to the public!

Big thanks to everyone that gave me such great feedback last week at Affiliate Summit in Boston. Your enthusiasm and encouragement were fantastic!

Army Of Two, Dick Cheney And John Mccain Invade Iran
Just the two of them? Without any other soldiers or anything? That, I’d like to see. A pair of crusty old men in combat uniforms storming the desert? Priceless.

The Proof Copy Arrives!

August 7, 2008 · Filed Under News, The Books · Comments

Unbelievably, my first author proof copy of Volume One: Subject Lines was delivered by UPS this morning. I was notified just two days ago, in late afternoon no less, that the proof would be printed and shipped.

BookSurge pwns.

I’m thoroughly impressed with the quality of the printing - it’s absolutely flawless. Due to a mix-up on my end, the barcode was not added to the back cover. I thought they would do it automatically, but I was supposed to let them know that the barcode placement was to be done by them (rather than me creating it and inserting it into the back cover myself). I called Nicole, one of my BookSurge managers, and cleared it up very easily. We decided that as long as they’re going to run off another proof (with the barcode in place), I might take the opportunity to tweak a few things. I decided to tighten up the text on the back cover slightly, just to move it off the edges a bit more. I also adjusted the brightness/contrast on a few of the interior images that I hadn’t realized would print a little on the dark side.

The new files were just uploaded, and if BookSurge keeps impressing me as much as they have been, I should have a new proof copy early next week. I fully expect that I’ll approve that copy, given the nature of the changes I made this morning.

BookSurge Continues to Impress

BookSurge is really on the ball! I received this in my email just a few minutes ago:

Status Update: Physical Proof is Being Created

The BookSurge internal review of your book is complete. Your physical proof is being printed and will be shipped to the address listed in your BookSurge account within five business days for your final review and approval.

Follow the steps below to approve your physical proof and make your book available for purchase.
1. Log in to your online GPS account.
2. Click on “Books in Process” from the GPS main navigation bar (the red stripe running across the top of the screen).
3. Click the silver checkmark under the words “Approve Physical Proof.”

Your book will then achieve print ready status in the BookSurge system and will soon appear for sale through BookSurge’s various distribution channels.

If you are dissatisfied with your physical proof and do not wish to approve it, you may be able to submit corrections or resubmit files, depending on your book submission type. Follow the on-screen instructions to reject your physical proof. Please note that any changes or corrections will be subject to the applicable fees.

Please contact your account manager with any questions you may have.

Sincerely,

BookSurge

Absolutely fantastic. Great service, just great.

Just recieved the following in my email:

Status Update: Your Book Has Moved to Imposition

Your book has moved to the next phase of the bookmaking process, known as imposition. During this phase, we will create print files for your book and ensure those files print properly. The timeline for this process is approximately seven business days.

Please contact your account manager if you have any questions regarding this or any part of the bookmaking process.

Sincerely,

BookSurge

Fantastic! BookSurge continues to impress me. I uploaded the book file this past Friday, so either they’re working weekends or they’re just really fast!

Volume One is Uploaded!

August 1, 2008 · Filed Under News, The Books · Comments

The Big Book of Spam, Volume One: Subject Lines has been uploaded to BookSurge, along with the book cover! After some additional editing that I hadn’t counted on, it’s finally uploaded and BookSurge can begin to go through it and make sure it meets all the publication criteria. I can’t say how quickly or slowly that process will go, but I’ve been told that it should be about two weeks, give or take.

On a related note, the Subject Line of the Week feature returns today! I’ll be publishing new Subject Lines of the Week every Friday, and the Spam of the Month feature will be making a comeback on September 1st.
